How You Learn

Start by signing up for the Texas Adult Drivers Ed course online. Complete 6 hours of fun, self-paced learning at your convenience.

STEP
Take the DPS Written Exam
After completing the course, take the required written exam online — no in-person testing needed. Be sure to also complete the ITAD course (Impact Texas Teen Drivers) before moving on.

STEP
Get Your Learner’s Permit
Bring your course certificate to your local DPS office. You’ll take an eye exam, have your photo taken, and get fingerprinted to receive your learner’s permit.

STEP
Schedule & Pass Your Road Test
Once you have your permit, schedule a road test at a licensed driving school. After passing, return to the DPS office to receive your official Texas driver’s license.
